Girlcrushes Articles

Miss you so much

We’ve just cleared our second award season in a row without Cate Blanchett. Missed her so much. Cate has focused on work at home in Australia, without too many film commitments, save Robin Hood which will fight for box office supremacy in May, due for release just a week after RDJ’s Iron Man 2. Kristen Stewart’s best hair

Her mullet has grown out into a layered, shaggy mop. LOVE it. Especially the first step at the front, like a grown out fringe. She looks amazing, head to toe amazing gorgessity. The makeup is great, the dress is pure sex, am fangirling for her legs, though I would have chosen a less sparkly shoe. It’s an Eva Longoria shoe, you know see what I mean? Whatever. Full Story

Tina Fey: Bunny Hop & Date Night

Last was the annual Bunny Hop at FAO Schwartz in support of the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre. Tina Fey brought her daughter Alice. As you saw, Tina was just in LA for the Oscars co-presenting with RDJ. In addition to writing and producing and acting on 30 Rock, nearing taping for the season finale soon, she’ll also be promoting Date Night with Steve Carell, due out on April 9th. Full Story

French Forehead Tittaes

LOVE HER SO MUCH. My Marion’s Funny or Die video – a cheeky acknowledgment of her superior French gorgessity and a man’s obsession with breasts. She also looks ridiculously beautiful in this shoot. The most amazing skin, great eye makeup, sleek and chic and sophisticated, and if Jacek ever had a chance (obviously never), I’d pack his bags for him and send him on his way. Full Story

Best in Show: Sandra Bullock

Post By Duana There are three reasons that guys I know love Sandra Bullock. 1) If you ran your hands through her hair she wouldn't scream "Don't, I just did it!" 2) Get the impression she's not going to be an uptight "lights out before we get naked" kind of girl. 3) So endlessly relaxed when she's being interviewed on these carpets - even tonight when she's poised to win and is trying really hard to pretend like she hasn't heard all the rumours that call her a lock - she is so easy and fun and f-cking real that she manages to not only have a good interview with a guy who got this job out of absolutely nowhere (seriously, who was that EW guy in the post-red carpet pre-show show?) but also create a catchphrase. Best Oscar black: Carey Mulligan

It was Prada and it was perfect. And the styling, the earrings, the clutch, her hair, it was perfect. Truth: am not feeling the shoes. The dress was so ornate, something simpler on the bottom seemed more appropriate. Having said that, they’re not totally objectionable upon closer inspection. And the thing about Carey, as Duana noted earlier, is that she was genuinely thrilled to be there. Full Story

Best Oscar Makeup: Kate Winslet

Not a fan of the dress. It didn’t totally suck but... wasn’t crazy about the two piecey-ness of it. No matter. It’s not what she wore. It’s the makeup. Her makeup lately has been crazy good. So good some of you think she’s had her eyes done. Or something. Lucky was our makeup artist on Olympic Morning. Full Story

This weekend: red carpet Kate

Kate Winslet arrived at Heathrow yesterday presumably in London for the BAFTAs. She is the reigning Best Actress. This year she’ll be a presenter. Can’t wait to see her on the carpet. Especially after these pictures of her casual and stripped down at the airport, more beautiful than ever. Full Story

Girlfriends in Paris

Jacek has been a STAR the last 10 days. He moved us last Friday without any help from me, has arranged the entire apartment, runs the dog, posts on the site when I need to crash, keeps me organised, and never ever complains. So he deserves his girls. Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz were in Paris yesterday for the premiere of Nine with DDL and Rob Marshall. Full Story

Ladies at the luncheon

Today was the annual Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon. Notably absent: George Clooney. It’s a non-campaign year for Clooney. Looks like he’s conceding early to Jeff Bridges. But enough of the boys. Let’s talk about our girls. GO Kathryn Bigelow, poised to become the first woman ever to win an Oscar for directing and a movie about war, no less. Full Story

Straight hair Marion

At first I thought this was a weave. And I was sad that my Marion would get extensions put in. Then I searched more recent photos and realised her hair has been styled curly for the better part of 3 months. So when straightened, of course it would be longer. Relief. Marion Cotillard is still real. And so f-cking gorgeous. Full Story

Kat Dennings: Nifty in Vancouver

Another girlcrush, another reason why Lindsay Lohan is almost forgettable, Kat Dennings is currently in Vancouver shooting Daydream Nation (written and directed by Canadian Mike Goldbach) with Josh Lucas. She was on set yesterday – gorgeous, luscious, quirky, and determined not be sucked into that generic LA cesspool of vapid, skinny bitches and their vapid skinnier sycophants. Full Story

Tilda, Coco, and Kevin

Tilda Swinton is at Sundance promoting I Am Love. She is Woman. She is Best. She is Coco. As you know, during his final monologue on The Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien joked that Tilda would play him on the HBO movie about the late night wars. When asked about this during the junket, Tilda said she was game... Full Story

Best SAG: Marion & Diane

Both have the Guillaume Canet connection and they were seated at the Weinstein table. Awkward or no? There was a lot of white at the SAGs. I’m biased, I guess, but no one was better than my Marion Cotillard. The side swept hair, so chic, the short length was perfect, the feathers were sublime, and the way she sweetly applauded everyone so enthusiastically beside DDL in the front row, enchanting. This, as noted by my friend Sasha, is kinda figure skating styles. Also an Alexander McQueen. Fitting too because on Saturday night, the US Figure Skating Championships were decided. We missed you on Sunday

Cate Blanchett won the Critics Award as Best Actress for playing Blanche DuBois in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire yesterday. Big surprise. From Sydney to DC to NYC, if you’ve seen her on stage, you know she practically reinvented the role. As reviewed in the NY Times, it’s like seeing Blanche, hearing Blanche, living Blanche for the first time ever. Full Story

Best Last Year: Kate Winslet

My love. Our love. Our Kate. Duana noted on our live blog last night: Tomorrow can you write an article about how Kate knows how to dress down when it's not her turn? With pleasure. These are the girl code moves Victoria Beckham keeps violating. Kate Winslet happily worked the carpet last year. As a nominee. Full Story
