Surprising but true. It was Eva Green who arrived last last night at the Golden Compass party. AFTER Daniel Craig. Flashbulbs go off like crazy…because girl knows how to work it. New Line anniversary party for The Golden Compass up in some house, only not a house, more of a mansion but when you think mansion the French architecture doesn’t quite come across and this was very much a modern chateau. Only marquee attendees were Daniel Craig and Eva Green. Everyone else worth an A+ was on the boat with Clooney. Full Story
Last night, having cocktails at Hotel du Cap on terrace, an Oceans 13 dinner was going on next door at Eden Roc without Brad and Angelina who were at The Might Heart gala. But George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon with Luciana, Andy Garcia, the super rich producers I’m too hung over to name… all of them present, and all of them spilled over back to the du Cap bar just after midnight. The amazing thing about Cannes is how random it is. There are the mega-celebrities, there are the international superstars – having finally seen Aishwarya Rai in person…now I totally get it. Woman is beyond beautiful.
But then there’s Billy Zane. Billy who? Exactly. Only thing I can recall about Billy Zane without Google is that he was the bad guy in Titanic…and if you have to be Googled to be remembered, do you really count? Especially if you’re a total cheeseball?
And then there’s that Victoria Silvstedt woman – some kind of pin up doll I would have never known but for a pappy video taken of her several months ago getting, um, culinarily sampled in the nether regions by an old rich fart. Next thing you know, she shows up last night at the Opening Ceremony during the VIP portion of the arrivals… WTF?
But enough of the D List. There were models and billionaires everywhere, there were actors everywhere, and then there was Juliette Binoche.
There are no words for Juliette Binoche. An Oscar for The English Patient, yes, but for me it will always be The Unbearable Lightness of Being and of course: It’s your favourite. Did you love Chocolat?

PS. Over two weeks in Cannes requires a lot of clothing. My thanks and love to Heather at Kiss & Makeup for styling me at the last minute! Cannes begins today – will be heading down to the Palais to cover the opening ceremony and My Blueberry Nights. My people are VERY well represented this year – first Chinese director in history to kick off the festival and the inimitable Maggie Cheung as a member of the jury…am proud.
Am also undecided about what to wear. It’s between 2 black dresses – should I save the shorter one for Daniel Craig instead of wasting it on Jude Law? Yes I think so…

French women are so ridiculously beautiful and chic – it’s a form of entertainment just watching them. Dylan calls them Weapons of Ass Destruction… we’ve been ogling for 2 straight days along the Croisette in Cannes – is that pervy?
Festival madness is officially upon us. Tomorrow it’s My Blueberry Nights: Norah Jones’s much anticipated feature film debut. The movie will be presented right after the opening ceremony – Norah and Jude Law and director Wong Kar Wai will be walking the carpet. And if you’ve seen In the Mood for Love, you are probably well aware of his work…which is why this one is the one to watch. Wong’s first English language picture has everyone talking. Will keep you posted.
Went through my press package today – turns out Colin Firth is scheduled to attend next week in support of his latest St Trinian’s. Hello Quiver. More quiver also in the form of Bond himself, Daniel Craig for The Golden Compass. A chance to be within striking distance of a member of my Freebie Five? Goddess help my loins.

Call me Cruise and bat-shit blind… but in person? Francois-Henri Pinault, better known as Salma Hayek’s baby daddy, is actually kinda sexy. Like Daniel Craig – ugly sexy. Oozes money and power too...maybe that’s the reason. But I like to think I’m all over it because they were so sweet together, the way he clasped her hand, the way she looked up at him before heading inside the ballroom – not a look of submission but of equality: a comfortable partnership…it was adorable.
